May 6th Rev. Karen Foley Now Here Be: Practicing Spiritually May 13th Worship Committee Mother’s Day Service May 20th Dr. Diane Campbell Health and Spiritual Practice May 27th Peter Burgher Welcoming Congregation President’s Message During May and June, we as a congregation can demonstrate our spirit and community in two important ways. On Sunday, May 20, after our morning service, we will hold our church Annual Meeting. I know we are an active group, with many people participating in the work of the church, which keeps the church progressing spiritually and practically. I hope that you will attend the Annual Meeting as we conduct our official church business and celebrate the many successes and improvements of our church over the past year. Secondly, with Severn on sabbatical for the months of May and June, various committees and individuals will handle the different needs of our church. Thank you to those who have already worked on plans for this time, such as the Worship Committee, which is scheduling leaders and speakers for our Sunday morning services. I recall my first visit to our church. Severn was about to head out for a five-month sabbatical and there was some concern about how things would go in her absence. On my subsequent visits during her sabbatical, I observed a vibrant church that made things happen, and before long, Severn returned to active duty. I deeply appreciate all that Severn brings to our congregation, but I am confident that our church will continue to run smoothly during these two months, too, thanks to all of you. Sue Cook Easter Breakfast A Cheery Gathering The cooks would like to thank everyone who helped us put together the successful Easter breakfast. Decorating, cooking and cleaning: we were grateful! It was gratifying to have so many of you at church an extra hour and a half early (Severn, don't get any ideas!). Thanks to all the kids that scooped up all the little eggs! It made us happy to see how excited they were. Shall we do it again next year? Maili Bailey and Deb Rich May Nursery Schedule Thanks to the following people who have volunteered to take a turn as the adult presence in the Nursery on Sundays during May as support to our wonderfully capable babysitters, Molly and Anna Ayotte. She was a very active member of the Waterville Church before she died several years ago. At her death, the NED board voted to honor her memory with the Kempers Award. This spring, the Sanford UU was recognized for its work in organizing the “Corner Cupboard” which serves over 200 families by providing such items as diapers, laundry detergent and various cleaning and personal healthcare products amounting to around $800 each month. Upcoming Lay Service Previews May 6th Rev. Karen Foley Now Here Be: Practicing Spirituality Just what is a "spiritual practice" and how do we engage in any kind of spiritual practice in our culture whose emphasis on "doing" seems to run counter to "being"? Rev. Karen Lewis Foley has served as parish minister with the UU churches in Monson, Chelmsford and Concord, Massachusetts, most recently as the pastoral care minister for First Parish in Concord. She trained in spiritual direction at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation and has been offering spiritual direction, workshops and retreats for several years. May 13th Mother’s Day During the Mother's Day service on May 13th we would like to give folks a chance to share thoughts and stories about the special "mothers" in their lives. Bring in pictures and stories on that Sunday.
