| Evening Sandwich Program - Tuesday through Friday - 4 to 5 p.m. The Evening Sandwich Program (ESP) has been serving the greater Waterville community since 1990 with a free no-questions-asked meal. Meals consist of a hot soup or casserole, sandwich and dessert if available. The program is open Tuesday through Friday from 4-5. In winter serving may begin at 3:30. The program may be closed for some holidays. ESP is funded through private donations, small corporate and federal grants. Churches and service organizations also make contributions. Every year ESP requires about $9,000 to operate. On average, four hundred meals are served every week for eleven months of the year. There are service opportunities for volunteers. Duties may include cooking, washing dishes, making sandwiches, sweeping and washing floors, taking out the trash, and serving the public. ESP also welcomes those who need to fulfill community services requirements. Community service volunteers must have paperwork from the court. The volunteers who run the program come from the Universalist Unitarian Church (Tuesday), First Congregational Church (Wednesday), St. Marks Episcopal Church (Thursday,) and volunteers from Colby and the general public (Friday.) Colby and the general public may volunteer on other days as well. The Evening Sandwich Program director is Maili Bailey, who can be reached by telephone at 474-7370 or by email at mailibailey@yahoo.com Thanks to everyone who has made the Evening Sandwich Program possible.
