The Evening Sandwich Program (ESP) at the Universalist Unitarian Church at
69 Silver Street is expanding its soup kitchen to include Mondays. As of October 23, 2006, ESP will be open Monday through Friday, serving the public from 4 to 5 p.m.

ESP is funded through private grants, donations from public institutions and individuals, as well as with a small grant from the Federal Government. The program also receives commodities from the Department of Agriculture. The program is free to all, no questions asked.

The Evening Sandwich Program (ESP) needs a lead person for Fridays. This

person would be in charge of organizing the other volunteers, mostly from

Colby at this time, and organizing the program for that day. For more

ESP once again is proud to have served the community of Waterville with a free-to-all-no-questions-asked supper program. In the calendar year of 2005, we served 19, 242 meals. 6,358 adults and 272 children asked for those meals. 

The Universalist Unitarian Church runs the program with volunteers coming from the First Congregational Church, Saint Marks Episcopal Church, Colby College and members of the community. We also occasionally have volunteers doing community service.

We are funded by contributions and grants from individuals, local organizations and businesses, as well as by the government. Food is donated by individuals and the Department of Agriculture. The balance is purchased locally.
