Religious Education Calendar for Junior Youth Group 2011-12: Famous Unitarian Universalists

December 11      Dr. Charles Follen, a Unitarian who started the custom of Christmas trees in America; making tree decorations.

January 15          George de Benneville, an early Universalist who developed ideas of a loving God and the preciousness of every person; he 
                              travelled in Europe and America and was Benjamin Franklin’s neighbor.

February 12      Maria Mitchell, a stargazer who discovered a comet and was the first astronomy teacher in Vassar College.

March 11          Alexander Graham Bell, a Unitarian who invented the telephone (taught deaf people, started the National Geographic magazine);
                           making electromagnets. 

April 8              Easter Multigenerational Service/ no RE class

May 13         Clara Barton, Universalist founder of the Red Cross who nursed soldiers on both sides of the Civil War.
